Seconhand Lions

Well, I almost got Lacey to let me see The Rundown, but in the end I consented and we saw this one. But it was all good, because I got to see the all-new, 2 and a half minute Return of the King trailer, in all its Tinseltown glory. I had tears in my eyes. I can say, if it's even half as good as the trailer, it's going to be the movie of the year. You know the trailer is good, when the movie to come is almost a letdown compared to it. But we stayed, and I thought Secondhand Lions was rather decent. Undeniably well-made and well-acted, it was certainly hokey in parts, and tried too hard at times. But overall, it was a fun movie. Robert Duvall was, as always, brilliant. And it's fun to see Haley Joel Osment growing up. Looks like he's going to survive the child actor curse. My only complaint is that he seems to be trying too hard. Maybe it's because everyone's been telling him that he's a brilliant actor, so he wants to live up to that, so he overacts. Whatever it is, I think it'll iron itself out in the coming years. Anyways, I give the movie a solid rating. I laughed, I cared about the characters, and I liked the movie.

I agree about Osment, at times his reactions were at the very best "Mickey Mouse Club" and should've been kissing Madona.

My friend and I walked into a 10pm showing and an utterly empty theater. It was bizarre. (We were expecting at least more than the audience of 15 that shared the theater with us for "Luther.") Finally along came about five soccer mom types having a girls' night out on the town. They were hilarious. We each took our own row and made ourselves comfortable.

I agree about Osment too.
I agree about Caine and Duvall. They were superb.
Some of the more emotional scenes and fight scenes were kinda hokey but the humor was hokey too, so it kind of paced itself out -- dealt with some real issues in a way that didn't kill the audience.
Most of all,
I agree about the RoTK trailer. I was absolutely thrilled to see it come across the screen unexpected. I can't wait to see the Field of Cormallen. "Their joy was as swords."
