This is a post designed to stick up for "northern cooking".
So I had an interesting Thanksgiving. Aside from doing the normal thanksgiving thing with the Rocketts, we did a week-early Thanksgiving with my family, when Lacey and I were up for my best friend's wedding. And I have to say, I love the cooking when I go back home. We had ham right off the bone (mmmm...one of my favorites), twice-baked potatoes with plenty of SALT AND PEPPER, corn casserole, home-made maple oatmeal bread with home-made strawberry jam, and home-made applesauce. And to top it all off, home-made apple pie. Am I saying home-made a lot? Maybe I'm being redundant. Amazingly enough, even people from the north know how to cook and make things from scratch! We didn't even have mashed potatoes from the flakes! They used (gasp!) REAL potatoes! Anyway, it was fabulous, and we had a great trip. Makes me miss the midwest every time.
Good thing I'm moving there.
At least your mom knows how to cook. That must have been nice. As I said before, I don't think all Northern cooking is bad, but the stuff I had Thanksgiving day wasn't so great. It was better with the other half of the family. Maybe I just need to swing by Indiana next time.
