Sweet Justice!

Hey, the Oscar results weren't half bad last night! Scorcese finally won his Directing Oscar, and the second-best movie of 2006 (The Departed) actually won Best Picture. Unfortunately the real best movie of "last year" (Children of Men) wasn't even up for the award. So all is right with the world, sort of. Children of Men and Apocalypto were shut out. And if you're counting at home, that's Forrest Whitaker: 1, Leo: 0. Oh well, you can't have everything. If you watched last night, you saw one of the funniest moments in Oscar history, with the song by Will Ferrell, Jack Black, and John C. Reilley (an accomplished stage actor btw). Hilarious. At least we got that, which was some restitution for having to sit through freaking Ellen hosting the Academy Awards. Sheesh. Anyway, go rent The Departed (be careful though, a lot of language, and violence), The Prestige, and cross your fingers for a quick release date for Children of Men. Oh yeah, and Flags of our Fathers is VERY good, but Band of Brothers is more worth watching. Different battles, I know, but BOB is AMAZINGLY good.

We finally saw The Prestige and The Departed. Both were excellent (as I expected). Prestige blew Illusionist out of the water. By the way, Children of Men comes out April 3.

I was just glad that Eddie Murphy didn't get the Oscar. I thought the dancers behind the screen were really cool. Over all I thought that it was one of the better Oscars in recent history.

What's wrong with Eddie? I hear his performance was great! And he's one of the funniest men alive, no doubt about it. Just because he has made some major bombs shouldn't bias any future projects or performances.

Hollie: glad you liked the movies, and thanks for the release date. My question is: ballpark, how many times did Jon fall asleep during the 2?

Surprisingly, he stayed awake through both. It's the dawn of a new era.

We don't know each other, but I see you over at the Cedar Room,

Ellen was the worst! She acted as if she never read a book or received an education in her life.
Also, I was severely PO over Jennifer Hudson winning Best Supporting actress over Abigail. And Pan's Lab loosing best Foreign film, what a bummer!
The Jack Black skit was gold along with Jerry Seinfeld calling all the documentaries depressing.
High Praise for The Departed!
