Interesting that Josiah just did a post on the hell that is Branson.
For those of you who don't know, Lacey and I are moving from good ol' Monroe. My job is relocating me to Springfield, Missouri. I just visited there last weekend. It is really a nice place. I haven't visited Branson yet, but I'm sure it can't be ALL bad. Anyway, the economy is much better than here, there is tons more to do, and we're excited to be going. It is sad to leave our church, all of our friends, and all of Lacey's family, but it will be a great opportunity, and I think we will have a great time. We usually do. Anyway, if you think of it, please pray for us. We'll be living in a strange city, with not many people we know, and a brand new church. Especially pray for Lacey, since she will be away from her family for the first time in her life, other than just a vacation or something.
This is a post designed to stick up for "northern cooking".
So I had an interesting Thanksgiving. Aside from doing the normal thanksgiving thing with the Rocketts, we did a week-early Thanksgiving with my family, when Lacey and I were up for my best friend's wedding. And I have to say, I love the cooking when I go back home. We had ham right off the bone (mmmm...one of my favorites), twice-baked potatoes with plenty of SALT AND PEPPER, corn casserole, home-made maple oatmeal bread with home-made strawberry jam, and home-made applesauce. And to top it all off, home-made apple pie. Am I saying home-made a lot? Maybe I'm being redundant. Amazingly enough, even people from the north know how to cook and make things from scratch! We didn't even have mashed potatoes from the flakes! They used (gasp!) REAL potatoes! Anyway, it was fabulous, and we had a great trip. Makes me miss the midwest every time.
Good thing I'm moving there.
He's back.
I watched Hero last night. I had heard mixed reviews. Critics loved it, people I work with hated it. I gotta say, I thought it was amazing. For instance, they do each fight scene with a different color theme. There is a red scene in the leaves, a blue scene on the water, a green scene in the forest, a white scene in the desert. It's amazing. Admittedly, I don't understand the whole movie, and some of the imagery, but from what I do understand, I loved it. I was ready to watch it again right after it was over. Some of the most famous Hong Kong kung-fu stars are in it, along with the incomparable Jet Li. That dude is freaking awesome. He was a national kung-fu champion at age 13, and can sword-play like nobody's business. I mean, I was just enthralled with this movie. I don't know what it was about it. It wasn't that complex, it was in another language, and it used the critics' no-no of flashback-storytelling. And yet...wow. I really like the analogy of fighting to music. The soundtrack itself was wonderful. I don't know, I feel like these are crazy, choppy sentences. I wish I could write more fluidly, but thoughts are rushing in my head so fast just thinking about this movie, it makes it almost impossible. I suggest you rent it.
