Anyone who knows me, knows I'm a Star Wars nut. Ok, so I'm not Matt Wilkins, but I just plain love the movies, and that's that. Episodes 1 and 2? Loved 'em. That's how hardcore I am:) Anyway, I just want to put my two cents out there on the episode 3, lucas, etc. I finally saw the trailer for episode 3 last night during the OC, and then downloaded it today, and I am freaked OUT! I don't know if I can wait another 2 months! Granted, this trailer wasn't as well-crafted as those for episodes 1 and 2, but the movie looks amazing. And let me just say this, I even love the title: Revenge of the Sith. That says it all! So to all you haters, those people who think they're too cool for school and are putting that "george-lucas-is-a-hack" crap out there so it makes them look hip (i swear if i read the word hipster on another blog i'm going to scream) you can feel free to not comment on this blog. Because there's no way you're going to change my mind. i guess when it comes to star wars, i'll always be a kid at heart. george lucas: i salute you. thanks for all 6 movies, i love every minute of them. and i'm sure billions of dollars allows you to ignore all those jealous twenty and thirty-somethings that can only wish they had such great ideas.
So my wife mentioned on her blog the other day (xanga.com/mrsmelton) that we buy too many CD's. That is, about 1 a month or so. Do any other music-loving husbands out there have the same problem? 1 a month CAN'T be too many! Regardless, it goes without saying that I have a number of CD's on my wishlist that have gone unpurchased in the last few months. So I'm putting it out there, my whittled down wishlist, and if anyone has any advice on which ones are the better, which ones aren't, etc. please feel free to help me prioritize these. In no particular order, here they are:
The Shins
Zero 7
Charlie Mars
Modest Mouse
Beck (his new one)
Keane
Franz Ferdinand
REM (newest one out there)
Cake (ditto)
So. Any thoughts? As always, your input is welcome.
By the way, have I mentioned yet on this blog how awesome Green Day's American Idiot is? Cause it freaking ROCKS! Ray Charles is talented and everything, but he only got the Grammy cos' he died. Green Day was robbed, and deserved album of the year. Start to finish, the thing explodes out of the case. My personal favorite track is the new one getting radio play called Holiday. Check it out. This is one concept album that really delivers.
I bought a new CD today. Jack Johnson's new one, In Between Dreams. The thing I love about Jack is that he doesn't go through great lengths to be ambiguous. His music has simple melodies, simple harmonies, simple lyrics, simple music. But it's still good. His new CD isn't very different from his other 2, and yet it has a different vibe. It's so pleasing to the ears and fun. I love it. It really does take talent to craft pop songs with singable melodies, and that is what he does. Not only that, but how talented is this guy? He's a professional surfer and wrote a movie script as well! He just seems like an all-around cool guy from Hawaii, and I happen to love his music. I mean, how to the point and straightforward, and yet lovely and meaningful are these lyrics?
"I believe in memories, they look so pretty when I sleep
And when I wake up, you look so pretty sleeping next to me
But there is not enough time
And there is no song I could sing
And there is no combination of words I could say
But I will still tell you one thing
We're better together"
Simple.
