Harry Potter Crashes a Wedding

Yeah, so I read the new Harry Potter book in 2 days. I bought it Friday night/Saturday morning around 12:30 (our movie got out then), and finished it last night (Sunday) around 11. It is without a doubt, categorically the best Harry Potter book of the 6. Order of the Phoenix was in my opinion a little bit of a disappointment compared to what WAS the best in the set, Goblet of Fire...until now. This newest book is taught, shorter, more dramatic, and utterly fantastic. When I finished last night, it was a weird feeling. I haven't been sucked into the world of a book like this since Lord of the Rings. I really felt for the characters, and it was as real as a work of fiction about wizards can get.

**Caution: mild spoilers ahead**
I really felt sad at the end of this book. I couldn't get over it. In fact, I was dreaming about the plight of Harry Potter! Rowling really hadled the teen romance aspect of this book very well, while making them pretty grown up for their age. I'm dying to discuss some of her choices of subject, so when any of my readers finish the book, let me know.

**Ok paranoid readers, spoilers over**

Anyway, I highly recommend this book, and if you aren't a Harry Potter fan, start now, if only to get to this volume.

In other news, Lacey and I saw Wedding Crashers on Friday night. It's rated R for a reason, so be careful. But this movie is absolutely hilarious. Vaughn and Wilson are perfectly matched, and Walken and Ferrell (of course) perform wonderfully in their small roles. My only criticism of this movie is that it could have become a "newer" classic comedy along the lines of Tommy Boy or Groundhog Day, but fails to hit the mark. One of its shortcomings is perfectly stated by Roger Ebert. The filmmakers don't use Walken correctly. He's brilliant in the scenes he's in, but he's in the wrong scenes, and not enough scenes. There was just so much potential in this movie that was unrealized. But that's a small criticism. It is highly entertaining, and very, very funny.

Calling All Cars

Does anyone out there that reads this blog have an MP3 player? Anyone? If so, I need to ask a couple of questions. First, what is the best music service to subscribe to for downloads? Yahoo has one for 6.99 but I'm worried they won't have everything I like, especially new stuff. I heard about Limewire but I can't get it to work, and ditto the previous complaint from Yahoo. I need a cheap download service to be able to add to my DellPod, and I don't know where to turn. Also, my 20 Gigs seem to be disappearing quicker than they should. Any tips on how to add my CD's to the DellPod with taking as little space as possible? Any hints, suggestions, etc. from more experienced MP3 users would be appreciated.

DellPod

So I've been wanting an I-Pod/MP3 player for a while now. I've been researching and looking for deals, and they just haven't dropped enough in price...until I got the bright idea to look on ebay and at pawn shops. I didn't really want an IPod, because I hate Apple/Mac. And I wanted one that could double as an external hard drive. Creative makes them too expensive, but Dell's DJ (digital jukebox) was just about right. I found a 20 Gig one at a pawnshop yesterday for a measley 100 bucks, and of course, snatched it up. Call it an early birthday present (since this is what I wanted, anyway). I absolutely love it. No more CD skipping, dragging around all my CD folders, etc. This thing's amazing. Not even MY musical collection can fill up the space on this thing! Not only that, but it had almost 2,000 songs already loaded! Granted most of it was weird, and/or rap, but there was a lot that I like as well, and even some stuff I had been wanting, but afraid to spend the money on. I'm pumped out of my mind (just ask Lacey). Now begins the long, slow process of trying to get my giant CD library onto the thing. It's slow and painful, but it will be so worth it. I have to rip the music and then synch it using WMP. It's painstaking. Actually, it's not bad, probably about 5 minutes per CD, but when you have a ton, the time adds up. Especially if you work and have a wife:) But we already have a car charger, FM transmitter, headphones, and everything, so what a deal. It's so choice. If you have the means, I highly recommend picking one up. (thanks ferris) There only remains what to call it. It's too much work saying "M-P-3 Player", when "Ipod" just rolls off the tongue. So we've decided to name it our DellPod. Come by and visit.
