Wow, I am writing a blog entry. That is weird for me these days. I guess it's a combination of being busy and apathetic at the same time. I just don't care about blogging. Don't get me wrong, I love reading other peoples' blogs. I have been following (for several months now) the saga in and around Moscow (Idaho) over numerous issues, but centering around some fellow named Michael Metzler. Anyway, he's been getting enough pub on blogs, so I'm done talking about that...it's just been interesting. Let's see, what's life been like......I guess I haven't really done much lately. By now all 3 people who read this blog have seen Lacey's picture of me and my new toy. Our RCA 52" Widescreen Projection HDTV. I absolutely love it. High-Def is beautiful. Watching movies (and TV for that matter) is so different, it's wondrous. Anyway, thanks to Lacey for finally relenting:) Other than that I've mainly just been teaching. My spring break starts Friday, so I'm definitely looking forward to that, but I'll be working all week washing windows, so it won't be THAT great, I'll just get to sleep in. And make extra money, which will be great. As far as movies go, we haven't been to the theater since we saw the Chronic (what?) Cles of Narnia in early December. That hasn't happened to me since I was 16 years old. But, we make up for it with the new TV so it hasn't been that bad. I'm getting used to not having the money to go see a movie. You can see what I've been watching and listening to in the last post. Lord of War was excellent, I really liked it, and Pride and Prejudice was fine. It was mainly for Lacey. We also watched Just Friends again, with Ryan Reynolds. That guy is hilarious. Well, my prep period is just about over, so enough wasting time on this blog thingy. Talk to you in another month or so.
Listening To:
Life in Slow Motion - David Gray
Back to Bedlam - James Blunt
Stand Up - Dave Matthews Band
Garden State
Watching:

Pride and Prejudice
24 - Not a movie, but totally sweet
College Basketball - Go Tigers!
Peace
Keeping with the music theme, I wanted to talk about something I've been seeing on peoples' blogs that I respect, and it's been festering and buggin the crap out of me. What's being bandied about is that Coldplay is overrated. And I take issue with that. I guess what brought this on was popping in their latest, X&Y, and grooving to it on the way home yesterday. It really is a good album. Anyway, I'm just wondering, who overrates them? The critics didn't give them too much praise on their latest album, certainly less than its predecessor. And sure they have legions of loyal fans, but of course fans like their music...that's the definition of fans. Even the band doesn't take themselves very seriously. Now don't get me wrong, Christ Martin is all about publicity, championing causes he likes...he's like the poor man's Bono. But have you ever seen an interview with the band? They are always playfully demeaning themselves, admitting they rip stuff off, saying it's girl-rock, etc. So come on! I'm not saying they write the most lyrically and musically challenging stuff out there. Or that they are incredibly talented on their instruments. But what they can do is write catchy tunes, with decently written lyrics, that appeal to the masses. And I think that is tough to do, at least tougher than most people give it credit for. I know I've talked about this before...but it's HARD to write catchy music. If it wasn't, everybody would be a pop star! So get off Coldplay's back, take them for what they are, and just enjoy the popcorn. I know I do.
May 2nd. Mark it down, you two people who still check this never-updated blog. It's a red-letter day. The reason? It marks the return of a new album by Pearl Jam, after their longest break between new albums ever. It's a self-titled set, and should be fantastic. Needless to say, I'm counting the days. They will also be touring this summer, and I'm already figuring out how I'm going to get the best seats possible at Deer Creek Music Center (as it will always be called, to me). Since we missed U2, Coldplay, and David Gray (no money) and we've already seen Dave (5 times for me), this is the next concert on the list. Should be awesome.
